DRIVER REQUIREMENTS

Driver Requirements For Drag Racing Police Officers Who Participate In Challenge Races Coordinated by Beat the HEAT, Inc.

• The driver of the Drag Racing Police Car WILL be an active, retired, reserve or volunteer Public Safety Officers (Peace Officer or Fire Fighter) who holds a current License, Commission or Certification from the State in which they work. (*For the purpose of this section Public Safety Officer is defined as a Peace Office, Fire Fighter, Deputy Sheriff, State trooper, Federal Agent (including Military Police), Reserve or Auxiliary Police Officer or Volunteer Fire Fighter. Paramedics who are employed by a Public Safety Agency may also meet these requirements of membership.) Exceptions to the Certification requirement will be Public Safety Retirees and other Civilians who participate on a regular basis with Police Agencies. Any potential new member will be required to meet with their State Chapter Director or a member of the National Board of Directors and be recommended for membership before receiving a Pre-Entry Packet for the world finals. Only Members in Good Standing will be invited to participate in the Beat The Heat World Finals.

• The driver must possess any NHRA license and safety equipment that is required for use in the ET Handicap class that their race car fits. These requirements will be those specified by the CURRENT NHRA RULE BOOK.
• ALL DRIVERS PARTICIPATING IN THIS PARTICULAR PROGRAM SHOULD BE A MEMBER OF NHRA AND HAVE AN NHRA PERMANENT NUMBER AFFIXED TO THEIR CAR according to specifications in the CURRENT NHRA RULE BOOK. This may be a licensed number (SST/SG/SC etc.) or an ET Brackets number. There are many benefits to a membership in NHRA that are advantageous for the purposes of these programs. Having an NHRA Permanent Number helps to avoid confusion during a racing event.

• All Drivers and Crew Members will consider participation in these events as an on duty assignment and conduct themselves accordingly. A Basic rule to follow is "Do not do anything you would not do in front of your Chief of Police while on duty and in uniform EXCEPT drag race." Members are obligated to see that their crew members honor these rules.

• THE USE OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE BY ANYONE CONNECTED TO THE DRAG RACING POLICE CARS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. That WILL cause a great deal of negative publicity for the Program, its sponsors and the Police Agency represented by the car. Rest assured, you WILL be reported back to your Agency by the fans. Make sure that report is a positive one. Our conduct in the face of the public is absolutely critical to the success of all our programs. It will take very little negative publicity for NHRA and your Agency to drop any identification with your program. You will be expected to act like the hero the kids think you should be. BE the kind of person that YOU think a Police Officer should be. Remember, knowing when to say "WHEN" is not good enough. When you are driving, "WHEN" is NEVER. That's what the people expect. Give it to them and we will all be successful in this endeavor. Fail and you flunk us all.
